Description:
Silver hunting-case watch with the Hapsbourg crest on the front; winding pendant knob; glass face; white enamel dial with floral band around perimeter and around center; black roman numeral hours and minute markings; decorated hour and minute hands; second aperture with arabic numeral second markings and second hand.
Gallery Label:
This watch was formerly owned by Maximilian (1832-1867), Emperor of Mexico, 1863-1867, second son of Archduke Francis Charles of Austria. He gave it to the Captain of the guard just before he was taken out for execution in 1867. A Mr. Yaeger acquired it in Laredo, TX before the end of the 19th century. He gave it to his daughter Anita who gave it to Mr. Heath Steele in February 1949.
