Engraved for Frank Leslie's Illustrated Newspaper, 25 January 1862 (XII:322):148-157[sic 149], as "Exterior View of the Fortifications Erected by the Federal Troops at Hilton Head near Port Royal, S.C.--From a sketch by our Special Artist W. H.[sic T.] Crane". Accompanying article: "Volunteers Going to Work on Hilton Head Fortifications", p. 149, with another print. Also reproduced in Frank Leslie's Illustrated Famous Leaders and Battle Scenes, 1896.
