Silent film star and founding member of United Artists film studio, Pickford began her career as a child, supporting her family by performing in traveling theater. As a film star, she continued to play young girls into her thirties. She retired in the early 1930s to a reclusive life at "Pickfair," the estate she shared with her husband, the actor Douglas Fairbanks.
