Bronze struck medal with obverse showing clothed bust of aged Washington facing right with legend: "G.WASHINGTON/PRES.UNIT.STA." Reverse depicts symbols of authority -- fasces, sword, and wreath, laid on pedestal bearing the American shield; legend: "COMMISS. RESIGNED: PRESIDENCY RELINQ."; in exergue: "1797."
