Description:
Silver-plated baby rattle with whistle and bells; shell-shaped design in middle of rattle with four bells attached to it; foliate design on shell; inscription in black script on stem of rattle.
Gallery Label:
Children's rattles were often worn around their necks, suspended from ribbons or chains, to keep them from being damaged. Made of silver or gold, rattles were fitted with a whistle at one end, a smooth piece of coral suitable for teething, and any number of bells to ring.
