Description:
Circular molded copper medal-shaped case containing hand-colored prints depicting naval victories of the British fleet under the command of Admiral Horatio Nelson (1875-1805); obverse depicts nude bust of Nelson at center, surrounded by legend: "ENGLAND'S ADMIRAL NELSON, DUKE OF BRONTE/HOR.VICECOM.NELSON OB PATRIAM PVGNANDO MORT. OCT XXI.MDCCCV." Reverse depicts winged female figure of Fame walking upon water with sailing ships in distance, at right; surrounding legend: "RECORD OF NAVAL VALOUR . EVERY MAN HAS DONE HIS DUTY/IPSE BELLI FVLMEN." Copper medal-shaped box is inset into circular red leather case with cream colored silk satin and silk velvet interior.
