Description:
Dark green cardboard revolver box with lid; box found nested, directions for use printed on exposed label.
Gallery Label:
This revolver box belonged to Lt. Col. William H. Paine, who served as a surveyor in the Army during the Civil War. It was found among the items in his footlocker. Paine was responsible for devising systems and tools to better facilitate the surveyor's tasks, including patenting a coiled steel tape measure.
