Description:
A silk woven souvenir ribbon bookmarker from the 1876 Centennial celebration still mounted on its original paper card. The multicolored ribbon has a central image of George Washington below the words "Centennial/ 1776-1876/ U.S.A./ The Father Of Our Country". Below Washington are two crossed flags, an image of the Centennial pavillion, an eagle and shield and a poem that reads "George Washington/ The first in peace,/ The first in war,/ The first in the/ Hearts of his/ Countrymen". The card reads "Thomas Stevens/ Coventry and London/ Inventor and Manufacturer of the / Pure Silk Woven Bookmarkers".
