Description:
Carved bone ring with plain band, initials "J R P" carved across front rectangular panel.
Gallery Label:
According to the accession record, this ring's maker, John Pilling, was a Union soldier in the Civil War; it is believed that he carved this ring while convalescing in a northern hospital, where he gave the ring to Miss Caroline Cox, a nurse there.
