Description:
Vertical rectangular linen marking sampler with green and copper silk floss; horizontal rows of alphabets and numbers separated by rows of different borders in cross and herringbone stitch patterns; straight line borders of cross-stitch; green is the only dyed silk thread stable, copper thread has faded; inscribed "Margaret A. Morris aged eight years"; embellished with heart and diamond shapes in cross-stitch.
Gallery Label:
Margaret Morris (1830-1911) was the daughter of William Lewis Morris and Mary E. Babcock; she married John Austin Stevens, Jr. in 1855. She died at Newport, R.I.
