Description:
Porcelain blue transfer-printed handleless saucer decorated with a repeating pattern of stylized plants; at the center of the saucer and at the inside bottom of the cup are identical rondels with flowers and grass.
Gallery Label:
According to the donor, this cup and saucer were part of a service given by the government of Japan to Commander Oliver S. Glisson (1809-1890), who commanded the USS Powhattan under Admiral M.C. Perry in July 1853.
