Description:
Porcelain saucer with blue enamel and gilt star band around outer rim, gilt scallop and blue dot band beneath and interior band of blue linked diamonds and gilt circles; saucer is decorated with two birds facing each other, each holding a flower, in an oval cartouche.
Gallery Label:
This teabowl and saucer set was given by Clarkson Crolius (1773-1843) to Elizabeth Meyer (d.1858) at the time of their marriage in 1793. Crolius was a New York potter and politician.
