Description:
Folding walnut X-chair ("savonarola chair") made from numerous S-shaped cross pieces linked by dowels; flat seat composed of cross pieces; inscribed brass plaque affixed to seat.
Gallery Label:
According to the accession records, this chair was procured by Captain James Lawrence (1781-1813) while in the Mediterranean and used by him on the deck of the Chesapeake.
