Description:
Section of wooden water pipe from Broad and Pearl Streets in New York City; cylindrical pipe with hole bored through center; one end (spigot end) tapers to smaller opening.
Gallery Label:
This section of water pipe was dug up in the summer of 1916 from the street in front of Fraunces Tavern, at the corner of Broad and Pearl Streets. The pipe may date to ca. 1799, when the Manhattan Company was incorporated to supply New York City with pure water.
