Description:
Pair of circular copper shoe buckles with design in relief; four flowers around the edge with studs in between, two tooth clasps.
Gallery Label:
These buckles belonged to the Honorable Samuel Jones (1734-1819), lawyer and New York legislator. With Richard Varick, Jones published a basic revision of New York statutes. He was recorder of New York City from 1789-1796, and comptroller from 1797-1800. He was father of New York juror Samuel Jones, Jr. (1770-1853), Chancellor of New York from 1826-1828 and state supreme court justice from 1847-1849.
