Description:
Pair of oval rectangular shoe buckles with hinged rectangular chape and tongue at reverse; obverse is hammered to resemble paste gems, with contrasting narrow geometric design at inner edge.

These shoe buckles belonged to Abijah Arden (1759-1832), of New York City, the great-great aunt of the donor.

Faitoute; to their son John Babcock Morris Jr. (1881-1957), the donor.
