Description:
Pair of 1st lieutenant's(?) shoulder knots; pad with silver embroidered "1" framed by two silver bars on red wool ground, with three rows of gold braid surrounding; strap with interlaced gold braid and gilded metal button embossed with shield-breasted eagle, the shield bearing the initial "A"; brass strap fastener.
Gallery Label:
According to the accession records, these shoulder knots were worn by the donor's father, Lieutenant Thomas Henry Barber (1844-1905), while serving in the 1st Artillery. Barber was promoted to 1st lieutenant July 10, 1872, and resigned from service July 1, 1885.
