Description:
Pair of gold shoulder knots in original metal box; buttons cast with the Great Seal at the collar end; reverse lined with dark blue wool felt, strap on reverse; rectangular box is hinged across the back, with tab at the front center to lift the lid open, inside divided into two compartments.

These shoulder knots were worn by Thomas F. Brown when he served as an Infantry officer, ca. 1898-1900.
