Description:
Mahogany Federal side chair with square-back with elliptical corners, and pattern of eight concave-faced ribs criss-crossing to form Gothic arch pattern; carved drapery swags on the crest rail tablet carved against a punched ground; over-the-rail upholstery over trapezoidal seat with wavy front; square, tapered legs.

The design of the chair back is based on a design in the third edition of Hepplewhite's "Guide" (see Publications). Related examples have been attributed to Salem, Massachusetts.
