Description:
Black-painted William and Mary-style side chair; straight back with carved and pierced crest rail, rectangular upholstered back panel between columnar turned stiles; upholstered square seat; turned front legs, carved front stretcher, and turned side and medial stretchers; uphostery is a floral tapestry applied with decorative tacks.
Gallery Label:
Though in the William & Mary style (popular 1690-1720), the chair is a late-19th century reproduction, though possibly using some period elements. It has also been suggested that it is a period caned chair that was re-worked and upholstered during the Victorian period.
