Description: 
Set of eight mahogany Federal style side chairs; scroll back with curved crest rail with five thunderbolts (reeds) tied in a bowknot; reeded stile and lower back rail with reeded double-cross (lattice) back; horseshoe-shaped seat upholstered over the rail with rose brocade (not original); swept back rear legs and tapered front legs with reeding.
Gallery Label: 
This set of chairs was used by the Livingston family of New York. The double-cross back is similar to those found on a set (now at Winterthur) billed to William Bayard of New York by Phyfe on January 21, 1807. They were reupholstered in 1957.
