Description:
Oblong tortoise shell patch box with painted ends; hinged lid with carved ribs and miniature depicting seated woman and monument (mourning scene); inlaid husk band around edge of cover. Bottom of interior lined with silk.

According to the donor, this patch box was said to have belonged to Marie Antoinette.
