Description:
Brass arched band spurs with cylindrical goads fitted with a ball head with a spiked dial through the center; brass buttons at the ends of the bands; brass chain boot band, a leather boot strap and scalloped square metal buckle attached to the buttons.

These spurs were worn by Lieutenant Colonel Noah L. Farnham of the 1st New York Fire Zouaves (11th New York State Volunteers) when he was mortally wounded at the Battle of Bull Run on July 21, 1861. Farnum was originally part of Company B, 7th Regiment, New York State Militia. He died in Washington, of his wounds, on August 14, 1861. His funeral service was held at Christ Church in Manhattan. His remains were taken to New Haven and interred.
