Description:
Aluminum struck medal with obverse showing nude male bust facing right within oval recessed medallion at center decorated with laurel branches and inscribed beneath: "BARTHOLDI"; legend above: "PRESENTED JULY 4. 1884"; inscription to the left and right of the medallion: "A GIFT/FROM THE/PEOPLE/OF/FRANCE/TO THE/PEOPLE/OF THE/UNITED/STATES." Reverse shows the Statue of Liberty with 38 stars above and legend: "COMMEMORATIVE MONUMENT OF AMERICAN INDEPENDENCE"; inscription in exergue: "LIBERTY ENLIGHTENING/THE WORLD/DEDICATED OCT. 28.1886." Hole punched at top center.
