Description:
Black painted metal storage box for epaulets; oblong with rounded corners; hinged lid with flat top and wire handle; red velvet lining; oval interior compartment containing five shoulder straps (1936.440ab, 1936.443ab, 1936.444); interior compartment with detachable lid.
Gallery Label:
This storage box for epaulets was used by the donor's father, Dr. Gabriel Grant (1826-1909), during the Civil War. Dr. Grant was Surgeon of the 2nd New Jersey Volunteers and later appointed Surgeon-in-Chief of Division.
