stamped: on the undersides of the arms: "J. & I. COX" in a rectangle, lion passant, "G" and [?] in rectangles
Description:
Silver bow-form sugar tongs with fiddle arms, squared shoulders and hollow ovoid grips; arch engraved with the Arden family crest, six ostrich feathers on fess; makers' marks stamped on the underside of the arms.
Gallery Label:
These sugar tongs belonged to Miss Susan Arden of New York, the great-great aunt of the donor.

Susan (Susannah) Arden (1766-1824); to her sister Margaret Antoinette Arden (b.1770), who married Frederick Babcock (b.1771); to their daughter Mary Elizabeth Babcock (1808-1851), who married William Lewis Morris (1805-1864); to their son John Babcock Morris (b.1839), who married Mary E. Faitoute; to their son John Babcock Morris Jr. (1881-1957), the donor.
