Description:
Presentation sword with slightly curved, single-edged steel blade with half-width fuller and gilded decoration on obverse and reverse; "U.S." framed by elaborate scroll motifs on obverse of blade, and eagle insignia framed by similar motifs on reverse; silver half-basket hilt with three curved branches with scrolled ends on obverse side; bone grip with carved finger grooves; eagle head pommel with end of knuckle-bow in open beak; metal (aluminum?) scabbard with asymmetrical drag and two carrying rings attached to bands with oak leaf and acorn design in relief framing inscription; leather accessory (c) now detached.
