Description:
Sword with straight, double-edged steel blade with etched designs and inscriptions on obverse and reverse; blade is diamond-shaped in cross section; gilded brass cross quillons with counter-guard consisting of an oval section with openwork foliate design incorporating two triangles, which is angled downward over blade on obverse side, and a smaller, similarly angled piece with emblem of cross and serpent at the center of a nine-pointed star on reverse; ebony grip with applied brass cross; pommel in the form of a conventionalized helmet with chain extending from visor to end of quillon below; black enameled steel scabbard with a single gilded brass band with two carrying rings, with cut-out cross and serpent emblem embellished with engraving and red paint, and gilded brass tip (now detached) with flat, trilobed finial with nine-pointed star in relief on one side.
