Description: 
Sword with straight, double-edged steel blade with landscape with two knights jousting and other motifs etched on obverse and inscription, "John A. Lefferts," etched on reverse; blade is elliptical in cross section; gilded brass cross quillons with flared ends, each pierced with a triangle; rectangular panel at center of quillons decorated with a cross in relief on either side; ebony grip with an applied brass cross on obverse and reverse; brass pommel in the form of a conventionalized helmet; metal scabbard with brass plating or gilding and engraved scroll and cable motifs; mount near throat of scabbard has a cut-out cross which is embellished with red enamel and engraving; tip of scabbard has an ornamental finial in the form of an double portrait bust, with frontal head molded in high relief on either side.
