Description: 
Sword belt made of black textile with five parallel horizontal stripes embroidered in gold on obverse and black leather backing on reverse; gilded brass hardware, including circular buckle embossed with an eagle perched on an anchor inside an oak leaf and acorn wreath; two slings with clips.

According to the accession records, this belt was worn by Naval Chief-Engineer William Leonard Nicoll (1842-1887), the donor's uncle. Various other parts of Nicoll's uniform are also in the N-YHS collection.
