Description: 
Leather, brass, gold, and silver sword shoulder belt; black leather belt with brass clip near center suspending scabbard sling with end hook that fastens to sling suspended from ring on left side, and with rectangular brass plate at right end that fastens to hook on left; gilt lacing on exterior of belt and slings; gold tassel attached to gold metallic cloth tape suspended from hook on end of left sling; plate has stamped eagle in center with shield on breast, branch in one talon and three arrows in other talon, flanked by silver wreath at bottom and with rayed background, thirteen stars, and inscription inside scroll at top.

This sword belt is the U.S. Army standard model that was worn by general officers between 1850 and 1872. The tassel that is suspended from one of the saber slings normally was part of the sword, and was not worn on the sword belt.
