Description: 
Sword with slightly curved, single-edged steel blade with three-quarter length fuller and etched designs on obverse and reverse; white metal half-basket hilt with three branches on obverse side and quillon with globular finial; bone grip with carved finger grooves; bird's head pommel with backstrap; acorn-shaped textile ornament on strip of cloth tape tied to knuckle-bow; white metal scabbard with two carrying rings and asymmetrical drag.

According to the accession records, this sword belonged to Captain Harry A. Ely (d. 1926). Ely served as a captain or lieutenant in the Spanish-American War and as an artillery instructor in World War I.
