Description:
Sword with straight, double-edged steel blade with etched knights in armor and cross emblems with light gilding on obverse and similar designs on reverse, the obverse also with inscription, "J. G. Harbord"; blade is diamond-shaped in cross section; metal parts of hilt are silver-painted; oval shield at center of quillons on obverse side with inscription, "IN HOC SIGNO VINCES," and cross and crown in relief; ends of quillons with openwork design with croix formée in circular frame; bone grip painted with monogram, "JGH," below a crown and between branches of oak and laurel on obverse, and cross and triangle on reverse; pommel in the form of a conventionalized helmet with chain extending from visor to end of quillons below; matte-surfaced steel scabbard with decorative, silver-painted metal mounts; upper band, which is decorated with a molded cross within a shield-shaped outline, has two carrying rings; middle band, which is decorated with initials "KT," has a single carrying ring; tip has a molded croix formée and interlace design on obverse side and drag surrounded on both sides with scrolling leaves.
