Description:
Sword with curved, single-edged steel blade with three-quarter length fuller; brass stirrup hilt with reverse P-type knuckle-bow, quillon with disk finial, and simple langets on obverse and reverse; wooden grip carved with deep parallel grooves; bird's head pommel with strip of metal extending to ferrule at base of grip; brass scabbard with two carrying rings.

This sword is identified as a "U.S. Army officer's saber" and assigned a date of ca. 1812 in the accession records. The source indicated for identification and dating is "Nathan Starr, Arms Maker" (p. 81).
