Description:
Sword with straight steel blade and brass hilt; counter-guard consisting of two shell-shaped pieces, the larger one on obverse with molded crest, with dog head quillon; brass grip and pommel cast in one piece, the former with narrow molded ridges and the latter inverted cone-shaped with domed top; missing knuckle-bow; crudely made tin scabbard (cannot be removed from blade).

According to the accession records, there was once attached to this sword a label that read as follows: "Old Spanish sword captured by Capt. W. C. Bennett, on expedition after Aguinaldo - Cagayan Valley - Northern Luzon, P. 1. 1900." It was acquired by the donor's husband, Colonel James Guthrie Harbord (1866-1947), while serving as Assistant Chief of Philippines Constabulary, U. S. Army, from 1903 to 1914.
