Description:
Naval cutlass with slightly curved, single-edged steel blade with broad fuller; half-basket guard made of unperforated sheet brass riveted to cast brass knuckle-bow and counter-guard; grip covered in leather and originally wrapped with wire; helmet-shaped pommel without surface decoration; leather scabbard (now in fragments) with riveted back seam and circular frog stud, with fragment with frog stud joined to leather holster.

According to the accession records, this cutlass was picked up at Fort Fisher by Aaron Conklin the morning after General Terry's January 15, 1865, attack.
