Description:
Saber with curved, single-edged steel blade with two fullers, one broad and one narrow; brass hilt with heavy, four-sided knuckle-bow decorated with a band with three ridges at center flanked by leaf panels, and curved quillon with disk finial with molded rosette on either side; grip covered in leather and wrapped with twisted wire; helmet-shaped pommel with smooth, domed top and leaf border centering a flower; steel scabbard with two carrying rings and asymmetrical drag.

In accordance with regulations in effect from 1840 to 1850, sabers of this type were used by mounted officers of both artillery and infantry (see Harold Peterson, "The American Sword, 1775-1945," pp. 118-119).
