A bolo is a long heavy single-edged knife of Philippine origin. According to the accession records, this example was acquired by the donor's husband, Colonel James Guthrie Harbord (1866-1947), while serving as Assistant Chief of Philippines Constabulary, U. S. Army, from 1903 to 1914. A label (now missing) apparently indicated that the knife was captured by Capt. W. C. Bennett, "on expedition after [sic] Aguinaldo-Cagayan Valley" in northern Luzon, in 1900.
