Description:
Dress sword with straight, evenly tapered steel blade, which is triangular in cross section; gilded brass hilt cast in three pieces: grip with oval framed eagle in relief on either side, acorn-shaped pommel, and guard consisting of two scrolled quillons and two shields, one on obverse side and one on reverse, the obverse shield with wreath border; leather scabbard with gilded brass mounts at throat and tip, the former with oval frog stud.

According to the accession records, swords of this type were worn by the Uniform Battalion of Veterans, 7th Regiment, National Guard New York, from around 1884 to 1895.
