Description: 
Sword with straight, single-edged steel blade with fuller extending from ricasso to within 11 inches of blunted tip; small military and floral motifs are etched on obverse and reverse of upper quarter of blade; simple brass quillon cast in one piece with knuckle-bow (now missing) and shell-shaped counter-guard (on obverse side) with shield-breasted eagle molded in relief; grips faced with two reeded ivory plaques, with a brass strip on either side and a brass ferrule at the base; brass eagle's head pommel; steel scabbard with three brass mounts, upper band with carrying ring, middle band with carrying ring, and drag.

According to the accession records, this sword was worn by Charles S. Roome as an officer in the 7th Regiment, National Guard New York. Later, during the Civil War, Roome attained the rank of colonel.
