Description:
Sword with curved, single-edged steel blade with wide fuller running down center and narrow fuller adjacent to blunt edge; obverse of blade engraved with stylized floral motifs and eagle insignia; reverse of blade engraved with stylized floral motifs and intertwined initials, "US"; cast brass half-basket type guard with molded eagle and thirteen stars surrounding base of grip, which is covered in fish skin and wrapped with wire; Phrygian helmet-shaped brass pommel with molded shield and laurel leaf border; scabbard made of aluminum, with mounts, including two carrying rings and drag, made of brass.

Harold L. Peterson identifies Henry V. Allien & Co. as "sword cutlers" located in New York City in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century (see "The American Sword, 1775-1945," p. 233).
