Description:
Bolo with curved, single-edged steel blade that widens toward the tip and has incised scroll pattern on obverse and reverse; back edge of blade above tip is shaped and pierced with seven holes; metal band and three bands of braided twine at base of hilt with ornately carved, L-shaped bone grip above.

A bolo is a long heavy single-edged knife of Philippine origin. According to the accession records, this example was acquired by the donor's husband, Colonel James Guthrie Harbord (1866-1947), while serving as Assistant Chief of Philippines Constabulary, U. S. Army, from 1903 to 1914.
