Marks:
stamped: on all the handles: "lion passant in rectangles, unidentifiable mark crowned in an oval, "FM/ RT" in a rectangle.
Description:
Nine silver and steel table forks with ovoid, pointed handles decorated with floral motifs and bands of chevrons; circular handle sockets; baluster stems and three curved tines on each; maker's marks stamped on the handles. flat, sabre or scimitar shaped steel blades; pitch filled or 'loaded' handles made of two halves stamped from sheet metal soldered together.

These table forks were presented to Commodore Bainbridge (1774-1833), the great-grandfather of the donor, by General Lafayete, who visited Bainbridge in Philadelphia in 1824.
