According to a note found with this tailcoat, it may have been worn by Eleazar Lord (17788-1871) in his wedding ceremony on December 31, 1835. Lord was a businessman and author of books on currency, banking and religion, as well as president of the Erie Railroad, intermitently between 1833-1845. The cut of this coat, however, seems to be from a later date.
