Description:
Porcelain tea cup with shaped edge and molded handle with four spurs; blue underglaze rim border of abstract blue flowers, leaes, and circles with scrolling edge; polychrome enamel scene inside cartouche with gilded, low-relief edge depicting commercial scene with two merchants and two customers.
Gallery Label:
This tea cup is said to have been used by George Washington after the Revolutionary War at a supper given by William Beekman at his house on the East River near 65th Street.
