Description:
Wrought silver teapot; squat, round teapot with narrow, tapering gadrooning around the lower body; applied, stepped and concave shoulder with a horizontally applied foliate scroll band below the short, stepped and molded neck and rim; seated on a short, circular, stepped and molded pedestal with a vertically applied beaded footring; hinged, low domed lid with gadrooning around the top; cast, cauliflower finial applied to the center of the dome; s-curved cast spout, scalloped along the juncture with a small drop below, scrolls and large leaf forms on the underside and an acanthus leaf at the notched lip; two curved handle- sockets fitted with ivory insulators, the upper a scroll form with flowers on each side, the lower rectangular with a curved and tapered tail; c-scroll handle with reeding on the outer surface and an acanthus leaf grip; engraved on the front center with the arms of the Maitland family, a crowned leopard seated on fess with spread arms, holding a sword in the left paw and a clover in the right; maker's marks stamped on the base.
