Description:
Cylindrical porcelain teapot with reeded strap handles terminating in floral sprays and straight spout; decorated in blue underglaze with Chinese river scene with buildings and bridge; border pattern on cover and top of body consists of bands of blue-on-blue overlapping lines, fish scales, and scallops; gilded berry knop on lid.
Gallery Label:
This teapot belonged to William Minturn (1734-1799), merchant of New York and Newport and ancestor of owners, Helen Burr Smith and Henrietta Royer Smith.
