Description:
Rectangular, tinned sheet iron trade sign with painted inscription, "L. SANFORD, ENGRAVER ON WOOD," in gold lettering on black ground; three holes pierced on either side for mounting.
Gallery Label:
This sign was used by Lockwood Sanford, a wood engraver active in New Haven, Connecticut, in the latter half of the nineteenth century. According to the accession records, it was purchased along with architectural drawings and a scrapbook from Whitlocks Book Store in New Haven, Connecticut.
