The subject was the granduncle of Julie Husson, who gave the miniature to her friend, Helen M. Turner, an artist. A note attached to the back of the frame reads:"This miniature was given to me by one of my friends. He was a great uncle of hers: A Frenchman- name unknown- very beautiful. Helen M. Turner. New Orleans, May 19th, 1930."
