Description:
Tin, wool, pewter, cotton, and iron canteen; oblate, circular tin body with blue-green wool cover, white cotton sling running through tin loops at sides and bottom with iron chain fastened to knot at top, and cylindrical pewter mouthpiece.

This canteen was used during the Civil War by Alexander Campbell, a lieutenant in the 79th Highlander Regiment, New York Volunteers.
